Visitor Experience: Visitors will see the Buffalo Harbor Museum which is dedicated to preserving the city’s maritime heritage.
Building Description: The building was constructed in 1895-1896. It is one of the earlier ones using a partial steel frame construction running down the center of the building. The beams consist of both actual and fabricated I-beams. The walls are 2′ thick solid brick and the floor joists are 6″x14″ by about 18′. The floors are 4″x4″ boards. The building was built as a warehouse and in the 1930’s became a ships chandlery for the Howard Baker Co. until 1993. The Buffalo Harbor Museum obtained the building in 1997 and opened the museum in 2001. It holds many artifacts from Buffalo’s maritime history, including the bell from the Crystal Beach Boat “Canadiana.”
