Description: The former Buffalo Evening News Building, completed in 1973, was designed by renowned American architect Edward Durell Stone as the new headquarters for The Buffalo News. The project reunited the newspaper’s editorial, administrative, and production operations on a single campus after they had operated from separate locations for more than a decade. The site, formerly part of the Lehigh Valley Railroad property on the edge of downtown Buffalo, reflected the city’s changing industrial landscape and the newspaper’s continued growth during the mid-20th century. As one of Stone’s final major commissions, the building represents an important chapter in Buffalo’s modern architectural history.
