Visitor Experience: Michigan Street Baptist Church is a simple brick church constructed from 1845-1849. The church was recently lovely restored through historic photos to resemble its unique detailed stenciling design and stained glass detailing around the large windows. Founded and constructed by Freedom Seekers, the church has a rich history of African American activism in the city of Buffalo. It is the only structure built by and for African Americans in the city of Buffalo.

Building Description: The Church is an excellent example of vernacular architecture and was built primarily by the African American congregation. It features a simple rectangular plan with an original stacked limestone foundation and a plan timber roof frame of a functional design. Its high ceilings allow for a tremendous acoustic sound.
