Tours of Buffalo’s waterfront are offered on a regular schedule from May through October. Our two regularly scheduled waterfront walking tours at Canalside give an overview of waterfront history and current waterfront development. The Intro to Canalside tour is a one hour walking tour of the area surrounding the Commercial Slip, the Erie Canal’s western terminus, and Canalside Then & Now is a two hour walking tour that covers a wider area including the adjacent Cobblestone District.
Nearby, one of the city’s oldest neighborhoods and its proud Irish heritage is featured in our Old First Ward walking tour. Tour the grain elevators of Silo City, either by taking the stairs to the top or by staying at ground level, on our Silo City Grain Elevator Tours.
During the summer, experience the waterfront from the water! Cruise the River Boat Tours travel the Buffalo River aboard the Buffalo Maritime Center’s Electra. Our Kayak Tours provide an amazing perspective of the grain elevators of the Buffalo River. And our special boat cruise on the Miss Buffalo II, Disasters of Buffalo Harbor Cruise, is a great way to enjoy an afternoon on the water and learn about some of Buffalo’s lesser-known waterfront history.
Along the Niagara River, Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fontana Boathouse is a waterfront landmark that Explore Buffalo provides tours of on a regular schedule from April through September.
Another great way to see Buffalo’s waterfront is by bike! Our Waterfront Views Bike Tour is a great overview of the waterfront, including the Outer Harbor, the Buffalo River, and Inner Harbor. Our Silo Spin Bike Tour focuses on the grain elevators that tower along the Buffalo River.
